The project consisted of a replacement dwelling on the site of a collapsed barn, combining the following essential ecological characteristics.

+ Timber frame using softwoods from managed sources, timber board materials and English green oak structural framing from storm-damaged stock.

+ All stable organically-based preservatives and timber treatments

+ No CFC’s used

+ Plastic products used to the absolute minimum

+ Fenestration designed to account for sun-paths and passive solar gains available, with the majority of glazing to the south-facing elevation

+ Natural oak cladding throughout, requiring no treatment whatsoever

+ Provision for solar heating supplementation and rainwater recycling
